Officers
President,
Robin MacGillivray (term expires April 2010)
In Robin’s role as president of AT&T’s Business
Communications Services, she is responsible for all service and
sales to California and Nevada’s one million small, mid-size
and large businesses. During her 20+ year career in the communications
industry, Robin has led teams though periods of complex change including
several corporate mergers. She is skilled at providing strategic
and tactic leadership for large and small organizations. Robin chairs
the Fund Development Committee and is a director of Girl Scouts
of San Francisco Bay Area. She earned a Master of Arts at USC’s
Annenberg School of Communications, and a Bachelor of Arts, Magna
Cum Laude, at USC’s School of Journalism. She is a life-long
Girl Scout and resides in Alamo.
First
Vice President, Nancy Handel (term expires April 2010)
Nancy recently retired from Applied Materials where she had held
corporate executive positions including chief financial
officer, corporate controller, and treasurer. She now serves on
the board of two public corporations and the nonprofit board of
Silicon Valley Community Foundation. She received her MBA from Ohio
State University and she is a graduate of the Stanford Executive
Program and the American Leadership Forum. Honored for her professional
achievements and contributions to enhancing the quality of life
in Silicon Valley, Nancy received the Community Service Award at
the 2006 Bay Area CFO of the Year awards. Nancy is a former board
president of Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County. On their behalf,
she successfully generated financial support from corporate donors
and significant individuals for capital and major donor campaigns.
In 2007 the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County recognized her as
a worthy role model for girls by presenting her with their Juliette
Gordon Low Award. Nancy resides in Menlo Park.
Second
Vice President, Sally Biggin (term expires April 2010)
Sally is an educator and has held many academic positions including
high school principal, district superintendent and currently, university
supervisor at Humboldt State University where she earned a Master’s
Degree in Education Administration. She is a high energy volunteer
who has served in officer positions for the Humboldt Arts Council,
the National Women’s Political Caucus, Redwood Concert Ballet,
and Humboldt County’s Aviation Committee. She is chair of
the Sierra Cascade Humboldt Area Fund Development Team and has led
or participated in capital campaigns for Girl Scouts as well as
other nonprofits. Having lived and worked on the Hoopa Valley Indian
Reservation, the largest land based reservation in California, Sally
brings a breadth of experience and sensitivity to people of diverse
backgrounds.
Third
Vice President, Suzanne Moshier (term expires April
2010)
Suzanne, a former high tech sales and marketing executive with a
Master’s degree in Mass Communication, is currently board
secretary for the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County. She is on the
Council Realignment Committee (CRC), the body responsible for merging
the current jurisdictions. She chairs the CRC Communications Subcommittee
which develops the monthly electronic Girl Scouts of Northern California
Realignment Newsletter and she serves on the CRC Fund Development
Subcommittee. Suzanne is a seasoned fund raiser with experience
ranging from organizing special events to raising capital campaign
dollars for girl scouts and other volunteer organizations. Prior
to serving in a governance role, Suzanne was an active adult volunteer
in girl program. She lives in Los Altos.
Secretary,
Ellen Richey (term expires April 2010)
Ellen is an attorney and previously served as vice chairman, chief
legal officer and corporate secretary of Providian Financial Corporation,
one of the leading bankcard issuers in the U.S. In 2006, she retired
from Providian’s successor organization, Washington Mutual,
Inc. Ellen is a member of the Fund Development Committee and a director
of Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area, and serves as a key member
of the Council Realignment Committee for which she chairs the Finance
subcommittee. She holds a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School
and a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, where she
graduated summa cum laude. Ellen first experienced the pleasure
of Girl Scout camping when she served as a volunteer mentor at Camp
CEO. She is a resident of Berkeley.
Treasurer,
Carolyn Worth(term expires April 2010)
Carolyn is a CPA and a partner with the firm of KPMG llp, a global
provider of audit, tax, and advisory services. She is currently
a director of the Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area, where she
serves on the Finance and Audit Committees and led the most recent
Council Performance Assessment review. Carolyn serves on the Finance
task group of the CRC (Council Realignment Committee). She previously
served as a director of the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii. Carolyn’s
governance experience outside of Girl Scouts includes the Marin
General Hospital Board of Directors and Finance Committee. She is
a resident of Marin and a lifelong Girl Scout.
Members at Large
Arletta Cortright (term expires April 2009)
Arletta serves as the elected city clerk for the City of Fairfield
(Solano County). Prior to her election as city clerk in 2003, she
held a variety of volunteer positions with local community groups,
including PTA president, president of the United Methodist Women
in Fairfield, and lay leader for the Community United Methodist
Church. She holds a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning,
and worked for 10 years as a planner for the City of Benicia. Arletta
currently serves as first vice-chair of the Board of Directors for
Girl Scouts of Napa-Solano, and is the legislative chair, as well
as a member of the Property Committee. She has held numerous volunteer
positions with the Council, including troop leader, camp director,
and service unit director. She resides in Fairfield.
Michael Elliott (term expires April 2010)
Michael was founder, CEO and chairman of several electronics companies
in Silicon Valley and he has operated his own merger and acquisition
company. He has shared his extensive expertise with non-profit executives,
advising them in all facets of operations and governance. Mike is
active on the boards of the Peninsula Stroke Foundation, Pathways
Hospice Foundation, and For Those In Pain as well as the Girl Scouts
of Santa Clara County. He is a member of the Council Realignment
CEO Search Committee. Mike lives in Los Altos.
Teresa Gisske (term expires April 2009)
Teresa owns Gisske Insurance Services. Her areas of expertise include
human resources and corporate strategy and planning. She is a member
of the National Association of Underwriters and Soroptimist International
in Chico. Teresa earned her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley
and an MBA at Santa Clara University. She is currently in her first
term with the Board of the Sierra Cascade Council serving on the
Council Realignment Human Resources Committee. In addition to Girl
Scout activities, she assisted the City of Chico in fundraising
efforts to renovate one of its parks. Teresa resides in Chico.
Henry Gusman (term expires April 2010)
Henry is a CPA who owns an accounting and tax preparation firm,
Gusman & Associates. He is also director of financial compliance
for URS Corporation, the largest global engineering design firm.
Henry has served three terms on the board, has chaired the Finance
Committee and is currently treasurer of Girl Scouts of San Francisco
Bay Area. He also serves on several boards of for-profit companies
and is a member of 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, a civic organization
dedicated to helping African American youth. Henry lives and works
in Alameda County and is a Girl Scout Dad.
Karen Johnson (term expires April 2009)
Karen is director of the Charles Schulz Museum located in Santa
Rosa. Karen’s outstanding 29 year career in business, government,
and nonprofit work includes manager of the Sonoma Development Center;
a member of the key staff at Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, and executive
director of the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, the second largest
Volunteer Center in the nation. During Karen’s tenure the
Volunteer Center grew from an annual budget of $520,000 to $3.8
million. Karen has a master’s degree in Public Administration
from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
She was elected the first nonprofit executive to serve on the Santa
Rosa Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoma County Business Roundtable.
Karen is a strong supporter of the Girl Scouts, and was honored
as a Jewel of a Woman by Girl Scouts of Konocti Council. She lives
in Sonoma County.
Shoba Krishnan (term expires April, 2010)
Shoba is an associate professor with the Department of Electrical
Engineering at Santa Clara University. Her research interests include
Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit design and testing and
the study of signal integrity and modeling issues in mixed mode
ICs. She received her Bachelor of Technology from Jawaharla Nehru
Technological University in India and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical
Engineering from Michigan State University. In her role as director
for Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County, Shoba is a member of the
governance committee charged with educating directors about girl
issues and needs in the various communities served by the council
through a community panel process. She is also a troop leader and
lives in Fremont.
Dianne Lamendola (term expires April
2010)
Dianne is group vice president of Information Technology for Safeway
Stores with responsibility for support and services for all Safeway
retail stores, warehouses, manufacturing plants and corporate locations.
She has led many successful initiatives in bridging business with
technology solutions, increasing productivity and finding cost-efficiencies
in delivering applications, support and services. Dianne also developed
and led a unique program to generate interest in technology among
young women in high school. Dianne currently serves on the board
and Fund Development committee of Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay
Area. She resides in Contra Costa County.
Linda Lococo (term expires April 2009)
Linda is an Owner and Partner in the First Street Insurance Agency.
She has specialized in employer group benefit plans as well as individual
and Medicare related options for more than 25 years. Linda is actively
involved in Girl Scouts having served on and chaired for the Girl
Scouts of Santa Clara County a variety of committees with particular
emphasis on fundraising and strategic planning. Most recently Linda
was first vice president of the board and now serves as chair of
the nominating committee. Linda graduated from San Jose State University
with a B.A. in Public Relations and Marketing. She lives in San
Jose.
Dora Mao (term expires April 2010)
Dora is a partner attorney at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
LLP, a global law firm. She served as partner in charge of the San
Francisco office from 2000 through 2003. Dora specializes in a broad
range of financial, securities, and commercial transactions. She
is currently a director of Girl Scouts of Francisco Bay Area, where
she led an initiative to update the Council Bylaws. Dora is a San
Francisco resident, a Girl Scout Mom and serves as a co-leader for
two cooperative troops.
Jil Polniak (term expires April 2010)
Jil is a partner with KPMG, LLP working as director, Management
Assurance Services. She has 14 years experience advising clients
in the high-tech industry within KPMG’s Information, Communications
and Entertainment Practice. She is a member of the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants, Colorado Society of Certified Public
Accountants, and chair of KPMG’s Network for Women. Jil graduated
from the University of Colorado with a B.S. in Accounting and Finance.
She also studied at the Universite de Haute Bretagne in France and
participated in the KPMG International Development Program in Montreaux,
Switzerland. She is currently first vice president for Girl Scouts
of Santa Clara County and resides in Los Altos.
Debra Rossi (term expires April 2009)
Debra is executive vice president of Wells Fargo Bank, where she
heads the Merchant Payment Solutions division which focuses on payment
processing and other financial services for bank customers ranging
from small to large corporate and commercial businesses. She is
currently a director of Girl Scouts of Francisco Bay Area and a
member of the Fund Development Committee. She is also on the boards
of John F. Kennedy University, the Electronic Transactions Association
and Wells Fargo Merchant Services, LLC and is on the advisory council
to Visa USA for the merchant credit and debit card industry. Debra
is a resident of Contra Costa County and a graduate of Ohio University.
Ann Rutherford (term expires April 2009)
Ann has served on the board of the Sierra Cascade Council off and
on since 1976. She has participated in strategic planning for each
term. She retired after 25 years as a Superior Court judge and currently
works part-time in the Chief Justices’ assigned judges program
to replace judges as needed. Ann’s areas of expertise include
finance, government, and property management. She also serves on
the Council Realignment CEO Search Committee. Ann lives in Chico.
Robert “Woody” Shackleton (term
expires April 2010)
Woody is a technology business executive, retired from IBM and Foundry
Networks where he was head of sales. He is currently a director
of Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area where he has been active
in the strategic planning and budget processes. Woody was instrumental
in helping create and launch the “Girl Scouts Save the Bay”
initiative, and he has solicited major foundations and donors to
provide financial support. He is also a vocal advocate for programs
to provide Girl Scouting in underserved communities. Woody lives
in San Mateo County.
Erica Wallenbrock (term expires April 2010)
Erica is currently employed by Spottswoode Estates Vineyard and
Winery in St. Helena. Prior to that she worked many years with a
variety of marketing, advertising, and public relations firms in
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago, where she developed brand
positioning and marketing strategies including national consumer
advertising campaigns. She earned her master’s degree at the
American Graduate School of International Business. Erica currently
serves as secretary on the board of the Girl Scouts of Napa-Solano,
is a member of the Fund Development Committee, and is a member of
the Council Realignment CEO Search Committee. She has also held
many volunteer positions with the Council, including troop leader,
trainer, and service unit director. She resides in Napa County.
Board Nominating Committee
Tina Amber (term expires April 2010)
Tina is an executive with Macy’s, managing regional operations
in the East Bay Area. At Macy’s, she has worked with integrating
acquired businesses into Macy’s and is familiar with the issues
of forming a new, cohesive entity. Tina is currently a member of
the Nominating Committee of Girl Scouts of Francisco Bay Area and
has previously served on the Governance Task Force and the Strategic
Planning Committee, as chair of the Crossroads Association, and
in many Girl Scout volunteer operational positions. She has been
quite active with community organizations in the East Bay communities
of Pleasanton and Danville where she has resided. She is the mother
of six young women.
Sarah Ashby (term expires April 2010)
Sarah is a partner at The Waterman Group, an executive search firm
based in San Francisco. Her background combines 15 years in executive
search with 15 years of business experience that includes senior
management positions in sales and marketing for technology and financial
services companies. Sarah conducts search assignments across diverse
sectors, from Fortune 500 businesses and leading financial and professional
service companies, to cutting-edge Internet, software and e-commerce
firms, to investment management firms and their pre- and post-IPO
portfolio companies. In addition to individual searches for CEOs,
CTOs, COOs and senior level marketers, Sarah specializes in teams.
Sarah is currently a member of the Nominating Committee of Girl
Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area. She and her teenage daughter live
in San Francisco.
Mary Derner (term expires April 2010)
Mary joined the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of Konocti Council
in 2003, and currently serves as first vice president. Mary has
chaired the Council’s Nominating Committee, and expended great
and successful efforts in fund raising for Girl Scouts, serving
as co-chair of the annual Jewel of a Woman event for four consecutive
years. Mary graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara,
and Hastings School of Law, and is a partner in the Santa Rosa law
firm Lanahan & Reilley LLP. Mary also volunteers at St. Rose
School and Parish and resides in Santa Rosa with her husband and
three sons.
Julie Kimelman (term expires April 2010)
Julie joined the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of Konocti Council
in 2003, and currently serves as board president. Julie has actively
participated in Council events and fund-raising efforts since coming
to Girl Scouts, and attended the most recent national convention
in Atlanta, GA. As board president, Julie is on the Council Realignment
Committee and several subcommittees. During her past career as an
attorney, Julie served as president of the Sonoma County Bar Association
and the Sonoma County Fair Board, as well as chairing the Santa
Rosa Chamber of Commerce. She has two grown children, enjoys collecting
and selling antiques, and resides with her husband in Kelseyville,
located in Lake County.
Leslie Miller (term expires April 2010)
Leslie is senior vice president of Angel Capital Network, Inc. and
a representative of ACN Securities, a boutique investment bank specializing
in private equity markets. In these roles she provides financing
solutions and strategic advice for entrepreneurs and early stage
companies. She is currently a director of the Financial Women’s
Association of San Francisco and vice president of Girl Scouts of
San Francisco Bay Area. Previously she served as chair of GSSFBA’s
Nominating and Finance Committees, was a member of the Properties
Committee, and was co-leader of a Girl Scout troop in Marin County.

Julie Scopazzi (term expires April 2010)
Julie is a senior strategist with Strategic Marketing Services.
She has been active in many facets of public relations for more
than 15 years. She has been recognized for her work in the area
of newscasts with the Associated Press Station of the Year Award,
an Emmy for Best Newscast, and the Mark Twain Award for Best Newscast.
Julie has been affiliated with the Girl Scouts since 1998. She is
an active fund-raiser, serves on the Nominating Committee, and is
a director on the Board for Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County. She
lives in Santa Cruz.
