Mission Statement from GSUSA:

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God* and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
* individuals are encouraged to substitute a word that accurately represents their beliefs.

Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Who ME?
A Girl Scout Volunteer?

Girl Scouting works, and we can prove it. Girls actively involved in Girl Scouts develop more self-reliance, self-competence, feelings of belonging, and a greater respect for others than girls not in Girl Scouts. Research has shown that having these feelings are strongly associated with girls avoiding risk-taking activity. The Girl Scout philosophy is to influence girls before they make decisions that change their lives. Learning to make appropriate choices in the world, learning to be a leader instead of a follower, learning how to handle the stresses of a changing society, these are skills gained in Girl Scouting.

Girl Scouting provides fun activities and projects that develop self-esteem, self-reliance, leadership abilities and teamwork skills, all under the guidance of trained adult leaders. All this in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment. Doesn’t every girl deserve the opportunity to be a Girl Scout? Helping girls develop to their fullest potential and become competent, resourceful women is as vital today as it was in 1912, when the organization began. Girl Scouts of Northern California serves almost 5,000 Girl Scouts in Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties.

Girl Scouting is open to all girls, ages 5 - 17, and adults, regardless of racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic status, or physical and mental abilities.

What Can I Do?

Whether you want to volunteer for an hour a week or an hour a month - we welcome you!

Whether you want to volunteer working with girls, planning projects or helping in the office - we welcome you!

Whether you want to help close to where you live, at your alma mater elementary school, or by your office - we welcome you!

Volunteer Positions

Trainers work with adults who are becoming new leaders or learning new skills at a variety of levels. Some of the trainings we offer include Outdoor Skills, First Aid, Enrichment Workshops and Basic Leader Training.

Program Team Members plan the events offered to the girls in our council throughout the year. They also help organize and direct some of the events.

Troop/Group Leaders work directly with the girls at one of the four age levels or with combined levels. Leaders are trained to organize and manage a troop.

In School-On Site Leaders manage groups of girls where we are unable to find parent volunteers or where issues such as finances or transportation prohibit a girl from being in a troop. Some of these groups meet at schools during lunchtime or on Saturdays at community centers.

Service Center Volunteers work "behind the scenes" helping with large mailings, working in our Shop or some of the other many jobs involved in providing the Girl Scout experience for our members.

Event Directors are responsible for events offered to the girls throughout the council, such as camps, service projects or badge workshops.

Service Unit Volunteers work with adults in their area to ensure that girls experience a quality Girl Scout program.

Board Members set policies and provide direction for the council.

Delegates represent their areas as voting members of the council.
